BASIC TRAINING
Welcome to basic training, soldier. The skills you'll be taught will save your butt in a NerfWar. Listen carefully and you might just make it out alive.
I. Movement and Dexterity
Move deliberately. Be as quiet as possible unless you are trying to cover ground quickly.
When you hear a shot, take cover right away. Get your weapon ready.
If you think you saw something move, take cover and cautiously observe it.
Use the element of surprise. Often you'll catch the enemy off guard and you may have time to kill him.
II. Weapons
Carry your weapon cocked at all times. This counts for sidearms, too.
Fire in controlled, concentrated groups.
Learn the limitations of your weapon, including range, accuracy, and power.
Don't fire unless you have a positive ID on a target.
If possible, fire while your teammate is reloading.
Don't waste ammo! I cannot stress this enough! :)
III. Room Clearing/Close Quarters Battle (CQB)
One of the most dangerous things you'll ever do is to clear a room. Learn how to do it correctly, and live!
Here's how it works:
A. You throw open the door.
B. Your teammate aims at 1 and shoots the enemy there.
C. Rush in and turn the corner sharply, crouch and cover 2 and 3.
REMEMBER: Most assault teams in real life use grenades or "flashbangs" to prep a room for entry. Since you (hopefully) have neither, you must be very proficient with your weapons. For room clearing you'll probably want a semi-auto gun like the Mad Hornet, Chainblazer, or RotoTrack.
REMEMBER: Try to know the layout of a room so you can know where cover is.
If there is another entrance to the room, send a team through there, too.
If possible, have a sniper fire right when the door opens.
The element of surprise is absolutely critical!!!
IV. Target Practice
Stationary objects -- Be able to shoot and hit almost anything within ten feet with any of the guns you carry.
Be able to hit 25% of anything within 20 feet.
Be able to hit 5% of anything within 30 feet.
Moving objects -- Be able to hit it 2 out of every 10 shots from a range of 10-20 feet without it having any cover.
V. Dodging Darts:
In the open: anything goes, basically. You have to rely on your agility since there is no cover.
In tight areas: VERY difficult. Hopefully you have cover, otherwise it's suicide since you have nowhere to go.
Behind cover: You've got it made. Just don't pop up at the wrong time.
VI. Defense
1. Utilize choke points
2. Lay overlapping fields of fire
3. Stay away from open windows and other things the enemy can shoot through
4. Use cover
5. Deny the enemy cover
6. Hide
7. Turn off the lights
This concludes basic training. By now you should be knowledgeble in most area of Nerf warfare. Practice these skills until you are satisfied with yourself. When you're ready, check out specialized training to see what role fits you best.
